Evergreen Life

Context
Launching a public health record app

Evergreen Life was proposed by a capital investment company who invest solely in businesses that intentionally create positive social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. And their next venture: a Public Health Record App.

The existing patient experience to access and collate your health records in the UK is extremely disjointed, involving manual steps, requests, and silos of information across different clinics and doctors, which patients have to manually collate.

The challenge was to allow individuals to control and manage their own public health record, effectively holding their entire medical history in the palm of their hands.

The problem
Disconnected patient experience

In the UK, most GP surgeries and NHS hospital units all have their own individual databases that store the health records of their local patients. Records cannot be shared, as their systems are often not integrated. As a result, if your condition requires treatment from multiple clinicians, the responsibility lies on you as the patient to ensure each clinician is aware of how the other is treating you – what medicines, treatments etc.

As of April last year legislation changes meant that everyone in the UK now has the legal right to have access to, and ownership of, their own public health record – opening the door for more transparency around patients medical data.

This is where Evergreen Life came in.

Competitive landscape

The approach
Understanding current user frustrations

After a review of the competitive landscape, we conducted interviews with consumers which validated some key areas:

  • People have an increasing desire to understand more about how to look after themselves

  • Coupled with a frustration that there is a lack of clarity around the information that is provided

  • A clear lack of awareness around how personal data is (and isn’t) shared amongst all health practitioners.

  • A real desire for patients to take ownership and control of their own health records.

The solution
Your medical history in your hands

The goal was to allow individuals to completely control and manage their own public health record, effectively holding their entire medical history stored securely on the App.

Historical data (from birth to current day) can in most cases be imported from GP / NHS records directly into the App. Users can then begin to compile a complete medical record by adding in additional detail such as any private care they may have received and/or any private medication.

The solution
Gamification for preventative health

The App’s wellness tracker encourages users to grow and expand their health knowledge, take quizzes to learn their wellness score, and read hints and tips from clinical professionals.

The solution
An inclusive, trustworthy brand identity

Targeting such a broad demographic of anyone with a medical record in the UK, the brand identity had to strike the right balance between a caring, aspirational brand and a trustworthy medical product at the forefront of technology.

The outcome
Better-informed patients + better-informed clinicians = improved care & support.

350,000 downloads within the first 12 months

Twelve months after launch, the app has achieved 350k downloads, significantly above the initial 100k target. And has now reached over 1 million downloads.

NHS Endorsement

NHS England has now adopted the platform as one of their main providers for online service. More than 50% of GPs in England now link to the app via the EMIS platform.
